Climate Modeller

We are seeking a skilled Climate Modeller to analyze, simulate, and model climate risk scenarios that inform InRisk’s innovative insurance products. In this role, you will handle large datasets, develop robust climate models, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to create solutions that address climate risks. Ideal candidates have a strong background in climate science, data analysis, and risk assessment, with experience in modeling and quantitative research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze large datasets (e.g., ERA5, IMD, CMIP) to understand climate patterns and risks affecting key sectors.
  • Develop and refine climate models to simulate risk scenarios like droughts, floods, heatwaves, and cyclones.
  • Collaborate with product managers and actuaries to integrate model outputs into insurance product structures.
  • Conduct scenario analysis to assess impacts across assets, geographies, and sectors.
  • Regularly calibrate and validate climate models using real-world data for accuracy and robustness.
  • Quantify climate risks to support comprehensive insurance solutions for agriculture and renewable energy.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to interpret findings and inform product and operational strategies.
  • Stay updated with advancements in climate science to enhance modeling capabilities.
  • Communicate model insights to non-technical stakeholders, aligning findings with strategic goals.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory standards in climate risk modeling and data handling.

Qualifications

  • Master’s (MSc) or Ph.D. in Climate Science, Environmental Science, Atmospheric Sciences, or related fields, preferably from premier institutions (e.g., IITs, IISc, IISERs).
  • 4+ years of experience in climate modeling, data analysis, or risk assessment.
  • Proficiency in climate modeling tools (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB, GIS).
  • Experience with climate datasets (ERA5, IMD, CMIP) and statistical methods.
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques for climate data analysis.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills with a data-driven decision-making approach.
  • Excellent communication skills for translating complex insights to diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of parametric insurance or climate risk products is a plus.
